With Melbourne Spring Fashion Week behind us and our new season in bloom, we take a brief (and much needed) reprieve to sit back, relax and reflect on our recent runway show, The Tailored Escape.
The Runway Retrospective
Officially launching our new collection, the first day of spring at PJ HQ was met with a mad flurry of excitement, trepidation and, of course, seasonal allergies.
Taking a bold new step into the previously undiscovered world of runway production, the PJ crew was eager to see how the SS16 theme, The Tailored Escape, would translate into an independent runway show.
Leaning on the expertise of veteran Stylist, Sophie Barker, and Productions Specialist, amme, Peter Jackson's Design Director, David Jackson, and creative team worked together to create a showstopping experience that represented the magnitude of this monumental first for the label. "It was more than I could ever possibly hope for in our first runway show... everyone one, on every front was completely committed to making it the best they could".
The Sun-soaked Story
Soaking up the high spring styling of modern Tropicana while combatting dreary weather conditions proved to be no small task for the collaborative dream team. The challenge, however, presented us a unique opportunity to creatively communicate the sun-drenched nature of this season’s range, through a multi-sensory experience that played with sights, sounds, and smells.
Upon entering the MSFW Hub, attendees were met with lush, opulent flora, while sounds plucked from the sunlit shores transported listeners to the tropical beachside, from where the campaign draws its influence.
Strutting Our Sartorial Stuff
As guests began to take their seats, a visually spectacular wash of oceanic and sun-burnt palettes were projected onto the runway, setting the stage for the first act of the show.
Heavily focused on relaxed tailoring and this season's diverse range of Sports Jackets, the first act explored a high seasonal take on the new collection. A key feature was this season's introduction of cotton and linen jackets and suiting, exploring intense palettes and soft, neutral tones.
The second act brought the range back to the metropolis, delving deeper into the sun-soaked styling of our tailored collection. Palettes ranged from magnetic pewter greys paired with iris blue and magenta hues to rich navies and intense indigos, contrasted against emerald, mint, and marmalade tones. Checks took the dominant lead in the showcase, exploring Prince of Wales and Windowpane variants in a number of sizes, styles, and colours.
