Starting in the prohibition era, the movers and shakers of New York City were idolised for their penchant to live life on their own terms. Shaping both the city and society, this ethos gave way to the idea that anyone determined enough could lead a bigger and better life. This reached its peak in the 1950’s, when society, bolstered by post-war enthusiasm, made a push for modernity, seeing an explosion of art, architecture, music and fashion.
Peter Jackson’s AW16 campaign draws influence from the ‘Movers and Shakers’ of New York City. Their brash, unapologetically eccentric way of life is reflected through the bold patterns, striking florals and a vibrant colour palette.
This season we look to reinvent the classics by taking the best of 1950’s design and reworking them into the modern era. Witness the revival of the classic peak lapel, double-breasted and three-piece suit, reimagined into a contemporary cut, creating a powerful but polished look.
